Hope For Megan
A MUM is appealing for stars from TV's Pop Idol to perform in Stoke-on-Trent - and boost a campaign to improve her sick child's quality of life.
Rose Fox hopes five of the show's final 10 singers will take centre stage
in the Potteries and help raise funds to send her four-year-old daughter Megan
for crucial treatment in Florida.
She wants them to stage a concert this summer in aid of the youngster who was born with a condition that has baffled experts.
For the past few years, mother-of-three Rose has devoted her life to
raising £20,000 needed for the trip which could prove crucial to her daughter's
life. She believes the fundraising event could add up to £7,000 to the total
needed.
Megan would have the opportunity to swim with dolphins at a therapy centre
in Miami and visit a neurological clinic where a consultant may be able to
diagnose her condition. Her symptoms include speech problems. The fundraising deadline is now only six months away and Rose is determined to
reach her goal.
The 38-year-old from Cobridge said: "I read that one of the Pop Idols wanted to raise money for charity so I thought well why not for our Megan?
"I contacted an agency who are now in contact with managers for some of the
Pop Idols. Although we won't be able to get Gareth and Will, it would be
fantastic if we could get some of the others.
"I really think it will happen. I am very hopeful and if they say no, I will
go down there and ask them why!
"I am desperate to raise the rest of the money and even though people have
been great and we have raised £5,000, I need bigger events to get more money together quickly because I haven't got long left. I have got to be
positive, I can't lose faith now. Meg loves all music and it would be great if the Pop
Idols could do this for her. We will all be really touched and I will make sure Meg gives them all a cuddle."
A spokesman at London-based Sardi Agency said: "We are currently waiting for
certain managers to get back to us regarding the possibility of the concert.
We are hopeful and have our fingers crossed."

Why we hope the dolphins will ease our little Megan's
torment
SWIMMING with dolphins may have been on thousands of children's Christmas
wish lists for years but one youngster from North Staffordshire needs the
trip more than most - her quality of life may depend on it.
Four-year-old Megan Fox was born with a condition that has baffled experts
and caused her parents to launch a special fund in a bid to turn their
daughter's life around.
The Hope For Megan Appeal aims to raise £20,000 to send Megan to swim with
dolphins at a therapy centre in Miami, Florida. She will also visit a
neurological clinic where a consultant may diagnose her condition.
Parents Rose and Kevin Fox are now issuing a plea to Sentinel readers for
their generosity over the festive period.
Amongst those doing their bit to help, is Stoke-on-Trent city centre
manager
Malcolm Hawksworth, who has decided not to send any Christmas cards this
year but to donate the money to the appeal instead.
He is now calling for others to follow his lead.
He said: "I met Rose just as I was thinking I had better get writing my
cards this year.
"But after learning about Megan's troubles and seeing what an energetic
mother Rose is, I thought this was something I could do personally and am
encouraging all my colleagues to do the same.
"The Sentinel recently ran a campaign to say how proud folk are of the
Potteries because we all muck in to help each other. I am asking people to listen to Rose Fox and to muck in and help Megan.
"Every little helps, it doesn't have to be a big gesture, but if we all
club together we can get something done about it."
Mrs Fox, of Barratt Drive, Cobridge, says she has been overwhelmed by the
support the family has received in their plight to help Megan.
The 38-year-old said: "Mr Hawksworth is amazing, I was very nervous when I
went to ask him if there was anything he could do to help. But he was great
and I couldn't believe it when he offered to help personally too.
"This dolphin trip is extremely important, I believe it will really help
her and we will do whatever it takes. We will go to the ends of the earth to get
Megan there.
"Dolphins have a unique way of communicating with children and people like
Megan can learn to communicate under the same methods as dolphins do.
Communication is so important because, even as her mother, I cannot understand why she attacks me or why she wrecks the furniture.
"I have delivered 2,000 leaflets on foot highlighting the cause and I am
really grateful for the help we have received so far, but we have a long way to go yet.
"Sometimes people say 'how do you cope?' But I just say it isn't a matter of coping, she's my own and it is just natural for me."
Mrs Fox, who has two other children, spotted her daughter's problems shortly
after she was born in 1997 - but so far no doctor has been able to diagnose a specific condition.
The loveable child was initially thought to have a mild, then moderate and
finally severe developmental delay.
Doctors also think Megan, who has problems with her legs, may be autistic.
She is hyperactive and suffers from a sleep disorder.
Mrs Fox added: "Despite her problems, my child has a smile that could melt ice-cream, she is beautiful and we love her to bits."
Various other charity events are now being planned, including a reggae
night, an Elvis Presley night and a concert featuring band Vice Versa.
If anyone would like to help with the Hope For Megan appeal, or for more
information, call Rose Fox on 01782 313320.
